Cataltheia Group and Bruno Vision Care recently announced FDA approval of Deseyne, a daily disposable extended depth of focus (EDOF) contact lens for presbyopia. According to the companies, Deseyne is the first and only daily disposable soft contact lens using patented EDOF technology in the United States. The lens is intended for adults with presbyopia, which affects an estimated 1.8 billion people globally who experience age-related difficulty focusing at near and intermediate distances.
“We are proud to offer the first contact lens solution for the world’s aging population that delivers clear vision across all distances,” said Eddie Catalfamo, co-founder and CEO of Cataltheia Group.
Designed for Continuous Vision
Deseyne is designed to provide continuous vision at near, intermediate, and distance by utilizing Cataltheia’s patented hyper-refractive central zone, engineered to redirect light in a controlled manner. According to the companies, this design delivers smooth, continuous focus and natural vision without the compromises associated with traditional multifocal contact lenses.
“Its single, spherical optical zone delivers continuous focus across distances, reducing the need for patient adaptation while improving fitting success and practice efficiency,” says Paul Karpecki, OD, FAAO.
A Non-Surgical Option for Presbyopes
Until now, EDOF technology has largely been confined to intraocular lenses (IOLs) that require permanent surgical implantation. Deseyne brings EDOF optics to a non-surgical, soft daily disposable format. The companies say its performance is comparable in depth of focus to FDA-approved EDOF IOLs, and the lens offers clinically meaningful improvements in near and intermediate vision.
“The Deseyne lens is a one-of-a-kind game changer in presbyopia management,” says Mark Bullimore, FCOptom, PhD, FAAO.
Material, Comfort, and Safety
Deseyne is manufactured from vifilcon C hydrogel and enhanced with natural co-polymers, including hyaluronic acid and tamarind seed polysaccharide. The contact lens is designed to support sustained hydration, comfort, and visual stability throughout the day. As a daily disposable soft lens, it offers the safety advantages associated with single-use wear, and no lens-related adverse events were reported in
