Younger Optics has expanded its LED Pro lens portfolio with the addition of a 1.60 index MR-8 material from Mitsui Chemicals. This broadens the availability of the company’s patented lens technology designed to reduce visual discomfort associated with LED lighting.

LED Pro lenses debuted earlier this year at Vision Expo in 1.67 high-index MR-10 material. According to Younger Optics, the new material option provides eye care practices with an additional choice that can make the technology accessible to a wider range of patients.

Designed for Modern Lighting

LED Pro is the first patented ophthalmic lens technology developed to selectively absorb specific wavelengths associated with visual discomfort from modern white LED lighting, the company says.

White LEDs produce intensity peaks at approximately 450 nanometers and 590 nanometers. These wavelengths can contribute to glare, eye fatigue, and visual discomfort during activities such as night driving, computer use, and other visually demanding tasks performed under artificial lighting.

LED Pro lenses incorporate selective-absorption dyes that target those wavelengths while maintaining optical clarity, offering an alternative approach to conventional blue-light filtering lenses.

Expanded Material Option

The newly added 1.60 MR-8 material offers a higher Abbe value while providing a lower-cost option compared to the existing 1.67 MR-10 material, according to the company. According to Younger Optics, the material expansion is intended to help more eye care practices offer patients a lens designed specifically to address discomfort associated with the increasing use of LED lighting in everyday environments.

LED Pro lenses are now available to laboratories in both 1.60 MR-8 and 1.67 MR-10 materials in single vision and finished single vision formats, with hard-coated and uncoated options. Both lens materials are offered in eight base curves with powers ranging from 0.50 D to 7.00 D.
