VSP Ventures, in collaboration with the UC Berkeley Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry and Vision Science, named Sarah Huh as the recipient of the 2026 Dr. Craig Hisaka Memorial Scholarship.
The annual $2,500 scholarship honors a UC Berkeley optometry student who has completed the VSP Business Management Immersion Program. Selection is based on a reflective essay describing the student’s experience in the program and key lessons learned.
About the Recipient
Huh, a member of the Class of 2028, was selected for her thoughtful and insightful reflections, VSP says.
“I’ve always been interested in private practice, but the VSP Business Management Immersion Program completely transformed how I see my future in the field,” says Huh. “The mentorship I gained was a turning point in my education, building both my confidence and my commitment to a career in optometry. I’m incredibly grateful for the support and investment in students like me.”
Private Practice Exposure
The scholarship honors Dr. Craig Hisaka, who was a strong advocate for private practice and mentored optometry students pursuing private practice ownership. Dr. Hisaka founded Brookside Optometric Group, now a VSP Ventures practice, which was the first practice to participate in the Business Management Immersion Program. The program gives students exposure to the business side of optometry and private practice ownership.
