Marcolin announced a new partnership with New York Institute of Technology (New York Tech) to launch “Vision Reframed: Designing Eyewear Beyond Boundaries.” This initiative brings together academic research and industrial innovation, integrating the principles of neurodiversity, wellbeing, and sustainability. According to Marcolin, these concepts are intended to shape the future of inclusive eyewear design.
The project reinforces Marcolin’s commitment to supporting innovation and education, fostering dialogue between industry and academia, and empowering young talents who will shape the future of eyewear, the company says.
The Students’ Role
The project, which launched earlier this month, involved students from New York Tech’s Departments of Architecture, Interior Design, Digital Art and Design, and its medical school. Students worked with Marcolin’s design team to develop eyewear concepts that merge aesthetics, ergonomics, and technology. They were guided by Associate Dean of Research Collaboration and Innovation Jordan Keys and Professor of Architecture Alessandro Melis.
Workshops throughout the initiative explored inclusive design principles, sustainable materials, artificial intelligence, and mixed reality. Marcolin says the approaching allowed students to deepen their understanding of design approaches that merge innovation with ethical responsibility.
Turning Concepts Into Opportunities
The project concluded with final presentations evaluated by a jury of New York Tech faculty and Marcolin management. The most outstanding designs were recognized with awards and may be developed into prototypes. Selected students will have access to mentorship programs and internships at Marcolin as well.
Emphasizing Responsible Innovation
The collaboration included a launch event featuring Marcolin CEO and General Manager Fabrizio Curci, who delivered a keynote on innovation and social responsibility in eyewear. Other speakers included Marco D’Acunzo, CEO of Marcolin North America, Lara Marogna, group style and product development director, and Clara Magnanini, Group Communication and ESG Director. Each highlighted how partnerships like this can advance responsible, inclusive design across the eyewear industry.
