X-Cel Specialty Contacts and Essilor Custom Contacts have announced the launch of Lunara, a new overnight orthokeratology lens with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) premarket approval (PMA).

Lunara is designed around tangential, reverse-geometry fitting principles and manufactured in Optimum Infinite (tisilfocon A), a 180 Dk material that provides high oxygen permeability for overnight wear.

Lens Flexibility

The lens offers flexible optic zone and diameter options, allowing practitioners to address individual patient needs.

The landing zone geometry uses tangential principles familiar to practitioners who currently fit other orthokeratology lenses, according to the companies.

“Whether a doctor is new to fitting orthokeratology or already fitting today’s leading tangential-design lenses, Lunara is built around familiar clinical principles,” says Derrell James, vice president and general manager of X-Cel Specialty Contacts and Essilor Custom Contacts. “It combines premium material performance, flexible parameters, fast turnaround and direct access to knowledgeable specialty contact lens consultants.”

Fitting and Practice Support

Alongside the lens, X-Cel has introduced a dedicated Lunara Lens Selector as well as fitting, certification, and educational resources. These materials are designed to assist practitioners throughout the fitting process, including initial lens selection, follow-up, and troubleshooting.

Practices also have access to National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE)-certified consultants by phone from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday. The companies offer this dedicated consultant support for practices through X-Cel Specialty Contacts (1-800-241-9312) or Essilor Custom Contacts at (1-800-366-3933).

As part of the product launch, X-Cel is offering U.S. accounts a 50% discount on Lunara lenses through Dec. 31. The promotion includes practices adding orthokeratology as well as those incorporating Lunara as another tangential-design option into an existing orthokeratology program.

“Lunara reflects how we believe specialty contact lens manufacturers should support practices: with a strong product backed by equally strong operational support,” James says.

Practitioners can access additional product information and begin the Lunara certification process through X-Cel Specialty Contacts.
