The Contact Lens Institute (CLI) has tapped Olympic medalist and figure skater Nancy Kerrigan as the face of a new promotional campaign for The EASY Way, its initiative designed to reinforce healthy contact lens wear and care.
Kerrigan, a member of the United States Figure Skating Hall of Fame and longtime vision advocate and philanthropist, appears in a new video encouraging use of The EASY Way resources.
The EASY Way
The EASY Way, which stands for Eyes, Awareness, Safety and You, includes tips, infographics, and digital resources for practices to use with patients.
The program centers on three steps:
- Think Clean. Patients should wash and dry their hands before touching their lenses or eyes. Also, reusable lenses should be cleaned and disinfected with each removal, and lenses and cases should be kept away from water.
- Remember Fresher is Better. Patients should follow their eye care professional’s recommended lens replacement schedule, use daily disposable lenses only once, and always use fresh solution for reusable lens disinfection and storage. Plus, lens cases should be replaced at least every three months.
- Trust Your Eye Doctor. Patients should follow the guidance of their eye care professional and contact the practice with any questions.
Reinforcing the Fundamentals
“A lot of skating success comes from mastering fundamentals early on and sticking with them over time. That requires coaches who can break down the practices into simple actions,” Kerrigan says. “That also applies to your contact lens patients, especially for health and comfortable wear and care. It’s why CLI offers The EASY Way—three simple steps to improve patient experiences from the start.”
Kerrigan also connects the campaign to her own experiences with contact lenses and vision advocacy.
“As a contact lens wearer myself, I know firsthand how important this is. And as a person with a blind mom, I know how important your eyesight is. You have to take care of those eyes; you only get one set.”
The video joins a series of recorded spots on CLI’s YouTube page featuring optometrists and opticians.
