Optometry Giving Sight (OGS) has announced the launch of its 2026 World Sight Day Challenge.
In its 20th year, World Sight Day Challenge coincides with World Sight Day, which is observed annually on the second Thursday of October. The campaign will run from Sept. 1 through Oct. 31. Funds raised through the World Sight Day Challenge support OGS-funded programs that provide eye examinations, eyeglasses, optometry training, and vision care infrastructure in underserved communities.
It’s An Entire Future
This year’s campaign theme, “It’s not just sight. It’s an entire future,” highlights the broader impact that access to basic vision care can have on education, employment, and quality of life. The organization is inviting optometry practices, schools, industry partners, and other supporters to participate in the annual fundraising campaign supporting sustainable vision care programs around the world.
“The World Sight Day Challenge is one of the most powerful expressions of what the optometry community can accomplish when it comes together,” says OGS Executive Director Donna Mikulecky. “Every year, people around the globe raise their hands and say: We believe vision care should be available to everyone, not just those who can afford it.”
New Features for 2026
The 2026 campaign introduces several new engagement opportunities, including:
- A live leaderboard that will track fundraising performance throughout the campaign.
- An expanded contest lineup with competitions such as the Leaderboard Challenge, Selfie Madness, Social Media Bingo, Rising Star, and Rookie of the Year, with prizes for both practices and optometry schools.
- An updated digital toolkit with social media graphics, patient email templates, counter cards, fundraising guides, and other promotional resources designed to help practices and schools run local campaigns.
How to Participate
Registration for the World Sight Day Challenge is free and open to optometry practices, schools, industry partners, and individual supporters worldwide. Participants can choose from a variety of fundraising approaches, including donating a day’s exam fees or organizing community fundraising events. Funds raised during the campaign must be submitted by Nov. 30.
During the past 20 years, OGS says its funding has helped provide primary eye care services to 15 million people, supported the training of more than 14,000 eye care professionals, and assisted in establishing 200+ vision centers in more than 70 countries.
