Johnson & Johnson is expanding the U.S. rollout of TECNIS PureSee IOL, an extended depth of focus intraocular lens (IOL) for patients undergoing cataract surgery.
The company says the presbyopia-correcting IOL offers excellent distance and intermediate vision with some near vision. Johnson & Johnson also reports that 97% of PureSee patients experienced no very bothersome visual disturbances.

The company says TECNIS PureSee IOL is the first and only U.S. FDA-approved extended depth of focus intraocular lens with no warning on loss of contrast sensitivity.

Surgeon Perspective
Dr. Daniel Chang, cataract and refractive surgeon, Empire Eye & Laser Center, was an investigator with the TECNIS PureSee IOL. “This is the first presbyopia-correcting lens I’ve seen that has similar, if not in some cases even fewer, night vision symptoms than a monofocal lens,” he says. “This is a very exciting time for the TECNIS platform. I think TECNIS PureSee IOL is going to be a landmark advancement.”
Patient Education Tool
Johnson & Johnson is also promoting a new patient lifestyle quiz, which comes during Cataract Awareness Month. The quiz is designed to help patients consider their daily activities, vision needs, and goals before cataract surgery. This is used to support conversations with eye care professionals about whether a TECNIS IOL, including TECNIS PureSee, may be appropriate for them.
