CooperVision has launched its MADE BETTER Promise, a new global sustainability platform. The initiative begins with the MyDay daily disposable contact lens family, which will include sustainability efforts such as packaging material choices and manufacturing improvements to lower the company’s carbon impact.
Key Elements of MADE BETTER
As part of the MADE BETTER Promise, CooperVision outlined several core components designed to reduce environmental impact across the MyDay product lifecycle:
- ISCC PLUS-certified materials. Plastic in MyDay blister packs is made from 100% bio-attributed material allocated through a mass balance approach.
- Lower-impact manufacturing. Production processes are designed to reduce carbon footprint through technologies and improved resource efficiency.
- Lower-carbon energy use. Efforts are taking place across production operations.
- High recycling rates. Manufacturing sites recycle more than 90% of waste, supporting conservation of natural resources.
Net Plastic Neutrality Program
The MADE BETTER Promise also includes CooperVision’s net plastic neutrality program. Developed in partnership with Plastic Bank, the company offsets a portion of the plastic used in MyDay lenses by funding the collection and recycling of plastic waste in coastal communities.
According to CooperVision, the program has enabled the recovery of more than 659 million plastic bottles to date. The program also supports socioeconomic opportunities in regions affected by plastic pollution.
Ongoing Global Commitment
MADE BETTER Innovation is an ongoing commitment, CooperVision says. Advancements in materials, technologies and processes will be aimed to further reduce its environmental impact.
“CooperVision’s sustainability progress begins with innovation—in materials, manufacturing, and the way we think about the full life cycle of our products,” says Aldo Zucaro, senior director of corporate responsibility, CooperCompanies. “The MADE BETTER Promise reflects how we are turning those innovations into real-world impact through thoughtful choices that benefit both People + Planet.”
“As eye care professionals, we make daily choices that extend far beyond our exam rooms,” adds Raj Patel, OD, FAAO, Vancouver Vision Clinic. “Sustainability reflects a commitment to long-term health—not just for our patients, but for our communities and our planet.”
