Yalea, part of the De Rigo Group, has announced its support of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) through the “Mothers Beyond Borders” project, which is focused on the organization’s maternal and pediatric hospital in Khost, Afghanistan.
To support the initiative, Yalea is introducing a special version of its Halide sunglasses (SYA244, color 0XAP). The style features a rounded acetate front with refined faceted details and shades of brown and pink. The AY monogram on the temple is embellished by different shades of enamels.

Supporting Pregnancy and Childbirth
This project supports MSF’s hospital in Khost, which provides care to women throughout pregnancy and assists in more than 25,000 births each year. Yalea’s involvement also includes a multi-channel campaign designed to raise awareness and provide financial support for MSF’s efforts.
According to the company, the project reflects Yalea’s broader mission to support women globally while contributing to improved maternal and child health outcomes in vulnerable regions. Yalea is an all-female brand of sunglasses and prescription frames.
‘Mothers Beyond Borders’ Initiative
MSF’s work in Khost contributes to reducing maternal morbidity and mortality while expanding access to essential healthcare services.
Afghanistan faces significant healthcare challenges, with limited access to care contributing to high rates of maternal and infant mortality. MSF’s work in the region includes emergency obstetric and neonatal care, along with expanded access to sexual and reproductive health services. The hospital in Khost operates within a complex cultural and logistical environment. Women make up approximately 70% of its staff to help ensure patients feel safe receiving care.
“Childbirth should be a time of joy, not sadness,” says an MSF humanitarian worker returning from Khost hospital. “But the risks of giving birth to a child in Afghanistan, including insecurity, the lack of access to care, and gender-based problems, remain unacceptably high. No woman should die in childbirth. This is why we are here.”
